Humana Announces Improved CMS Star Ratings with 95 Percent of Medicare Advantage Members in 4-Star or Above Plans for 2027
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--( BUSINESS WIRE)-- Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), a leading consumer healthcare company focused on helping people achieve their best health, today announced improved Star Ratings for 2027, highlighted by 95% of its Medicare Advantage members being enrolled in plans rated 4.0 stars or above by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Additionally, 42% of Humana Medicare Advantage members are enrolled in 4.5-star plans for 2027.
“We’re extremely proud of these Star Ratings. They’re a direct reflection of the hard work that thousands of Humana employees put in everyday, helping members get the high-quality care and coordinated support they need to achieve their best health,” said Jim Rechtin, Humana CEO. “We’ll keep finding new, better ways to support our members and improve their experience.”
CMS rates Medicare Advantage (MA) and Part D plans on a 5-star scale every year based on measurements of quality of care, member experience and customer service.
Humana saw significant performance improvement across all measure categories. Compared with the prior year, 663,000 more care opportunities were met and 534,000 additional members completed an annual preventive visit. Humana’s tailored member engagement efforts help members access preventive care, which resulted in earlier detection and better health outcomes. The member engagement included a focus on those overdue for preventive care, which resulted in:
“Helping a member get an overdue screening means identifying a serious condition sooner, when there are more treatment options and better outcomes. That's why Star Ratings matter. Many of the measures are designed to track whether members receive the evidence-based care that helps them stay healthier. Delivering that level of care is central to our commitment to clinical excellence. Seeing that impact on our members is what drives our work every day,” said Shantanu Nundy, M.D., Humana’s Chief Medical Officer.
For 2027, Humana has six MA contracts rated 4.5 stars and 12 MA contracts rated 4.0 stars. Compared to the prior year, Humana has 11 additional Medicare Advantage contracts rated 4.0 stars or above. Humana’s PDP contract also earned a 4.5 star rating for 2027. The increase in the number of highly-rated contracts further enhances the company’s ability to serve members.
